Hi Folks,
Today's update goes out to all the unsung heroes of Torment. While you usually hear or read about a game's "lead [x]" (designer, artist, programmer), there are many other people that work their asses off to make the game what it is. While the people featured in the spotlight are (usually) certainly talented, behind every John Carmack or Shigeru Miyamoto there's the staff of unsung heroes. And with Torment, it is no different. We have a great group of programmers like Rob, Jim, Yuki and Dan. Rob's the madman with spells, selflessly pounding away finishing the optimizations and tweaks. Jim's busy with our AI and scripts, always finding new ways to save massive amounts of time and energy. Yuki's definitely our resident Mr. Stealth, quietly solving all the tasks thrown his way, and Dan The Man leads the pack, helping us solve all the things that no one else wants to do, and keeping us in step with all the best of '80's music (Strawberry Switchblade, anyone?). For the artists, most of you are already familiar with Tim "Giant Robo, Attack!" Donley, leading the pack of ragtag artists, on a journey to Earth… er, uh, sorry, got sidetracked for a moment… on a journey to make the best game out there. There's Eric, the OG concept boy and spell guy. Aaron busts the backgrounds while trick stylin' in Italian in his off time. Brian continues to try and instill the true funk into all of us, while putting all the fine detail to make our world come to life, all while Chris W-Tang Jones spins out some spells inbetween the trance-rap express. ScottE continues to bring sanity and artistic touches to our crazed weird-colored world, while Dennis and Derek take on whatever is given to them, flawlessly executing and delivering every time [one of these days we'll have to sit down and actually get ready to Rumble on his new Dreamcast - after Torment ships, of course ^_^]. And what can be said about the designers? Behind Chris "sexy bastard" Avellone, there's even more unsung heroes, like Colin the Goth, who lends his valuable wisdom and NIN anger to brighten up our day. And Dave "Psycho Crusha'" Maldonado, who's the resident workhorse (as the rest of Team Torment) and talented thespian actor. John selflessly works his butt off as well, always bringing a smile to our faces, and Scott Warner juggles between mad scripting, designing and being Mr. Underworld. Then there's Jason "Tenchi needs a new OAV series" Suinn, who, along with Dave Hendee, never cease to amaze us, with their hard work and devotion, 7 days a week if need be. Fred (along with DaveH) keeps us international ready and helps bring all our silent characters into the realm of the spoken. And Kihan's been a great help as well, doing whatever's been given to him. Our scripters are a mad bunch: Jake "Pokemon" Devore will soon be living here, helping us work out all the last few kinks, along with Adam "I love to commute 4 hours" Heine, with his ceaseless devotion and help. Then there's our beloved Nick and his lifetime membership to the Juice Club, and his help in working out bugs. And that's just our current development team. There have been many great folks that have helped us out as well, but our no longer with us - kudos to them as well. And I haven't even gotten to Audio, Video or our Kick Ass Torment QA Team. Tune in next week for more details. Until then… Torment Forever, |
